MDF’s partnership with Tourism Suncoast is focused on marketing the destination and creating a stronger brand through increasing membership from tourism related businesses in the region and supporting their participation in key tourism events. MDF has further assisted Tourism Suncoast by engaging a project consultant to provide secretarial support.

Market Development FacilityMDF’s current focus is to create additional employment and income earning opportunities for workers, farmers and small businesses by making relevant sectors of the economy more productive and competitive; making them grow; stimulating innovation; giving better access to relevant goods and services; and developing more appropriate rules and regulations in and around those sectors. In Fiji, MDF is currently working in three sectors: Tourism, Horticulture and Export Processing.

Looking at contributing to the recovery of the tourism sector in Fiji after TC Winston, MDF will work on (1) organising regional tourist associations into viable business member organisations (BMOs), and (2) supporting these BMOs in developing and implementing coherent and strategic marketing plans.

“MDF’s support gave us the platform to represent in this expo which helped us to interact with Tourism Fiji and potential clients for our wedding packages” said Allan Carter.

About MDF

In Fiji, MDF will create approximately 1,100 jobs and increase incomes for 12,000 households, reaching up to 67,000 men, women and children over a six year period (2011 – 2017). To achieve this, MDF works in sectors that represent a major part of the economy, have long-term growth prospects and are relevant for poverty reduction. The two initial chosen sectors in Fiji were Horticulture and Agro-Exports; and Tourism and Related Support Services and Industries. Later, Export Processing was added into MDF Fiji’s portfolio and will continue expanding to include other growing sectors of Fiji’s economy.
